Nucleotides have how many phosphates attached when...?

That's a pretty strange question. Usually it's said that there is a group of phosphate attached to the nucleotide. The phosphate group can contain 1, 2 or 3 phosphates. I'm not too sure of what your teacher (if it is your teacher) is looking for.
