Is it ok if a new tattoo is a little swollen, red and painfull?

I have 9.. some have really hurt afterwards.. some haven't bothered me at all.. after the swelling/redness and pain subsides.. then it itches during the healing process.. it's like you never win lol It'll be all better soon : )
